When do piglets wean?

In a factory pigsty with good conditions, the weaning age can be between 28 and 35 days, and the weight is more suitable than 6.8 kg.

The suitable weaning age should be determined according to the lactation amount of sows, the influence of weaning on reproductive function, the growth and development performance of piglets themselves and the breeding conditions after weaning.

Appropriate weaning age should also be beneficial to the reproductive function of sows (including estrus interval after weaning, estrus rate and delivery rate after weaning) and the production performance of piglets.

1, gradual weaning method

3-5 days before weaning, reduce the contact opportunities and lactation times between piglets and sows, at the same time reduce the ration supply of sows, and actively limit the feeding amount of piglets because of insufficient lactation of sows, so that piglets will have an adaptation process from less lactation to no lactation, and then gradually transition to fully adapt to eating piglet feed.

2, batch weaning method

This method is suitable for piglets with poor uniformity and different individual sizes in the same batch of piglets. The survival rate of weak piglets can be improved by weaning the same batch of piglets with large weight, basically the same size and weight, and other weak individuals continuing to breastfeed for a period of time until they reach the appropriate weaning index.

3. One-time weaning method

That is to say, the feeding amount of lactating sows should be reduced 3-5 days before weaning, and the sows should be artificially controlled to reduce the lactation amount until they do not lactation. Once piglets reach the weaning index, they will be forced to separate from sows.
