After World War II, African Americans opposed apartheid and discrimination and fought for democratic rights. (1955- 1968) As a part of the American civil rights movement, it rose in the 1950' s until the 1970' s, and it was a mass struggle for African-Americans' rights through nonviolent protests.

Marcus Garvey was an outstanding leader of the American black movement in the 1920s. He led the first large-scale black mass movement in American history-the Garvey Movement, which had a great influence on the black movement at that time and later.

At the same time, Garvey is the most controversial leader in African-American history. His supporters regard him as a god and call him Black Moses. Those who opposed him denounced him as an unrealistic dreamer and a complete liar.
