Marcus Garvey was an outstanding leader of the American black movement in the 1920s. He led the first large-scale black mass movement in American history-the Garvey Movement, which had a great influence on the black movement at that time and later.

At the same time, Garvey is the most controversial leader in African-American history. His supporters regard him as a god and call him Black Moses. Those who opposed him denounced him as an unrealistic dreamer and a complete liar.
