What is the Golden Rooster Award and why is it called the Golden Rooster Award?

Golden Rooster Award is a film award jointly sponsored by China Film Association and China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Founded in 198 1, it was awarded the Golden Rooster Award in China because it was the Year of the Rooster in China.

Golden Rooster Award is an authoritative and professional film award in Chinese mainland film industry. It, together with China Film Watch Award and Hundred Flowers Award, is called the Three Awards of China Film, and together with Hundred Flowers Award, it is called China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival.

The Golden Rooster Award accepts applications from China films that have obtained distribution licenses in the Mainland. The Award Committee is composed of experts from the film industry, registered in real-name registration system, and the experts vote to decide the awards.

The Golden Rooster Award is selected every two years. Since 2005, it has been held in turn with Hundred Flowers Award every other year and selected in odd years. Generally, it will be held in turn in bidding cities all over the country every year, and it will be held in Xiamen, Fujian for five consecutive years from 20 19 to 2029.
