The origin of Yancheng city name

Yancheng was renamed as "salt field under siege".

Before the Western Zhou Dynasty, this was the land of "Huaiyi". Du Yan County was founded in the fourth year of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty (1 19). In the seventh year of Yixi in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (465,438+065,438+0), it was renamed Yancheng because of "saltworks around the city". Sheyang County was first established in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and then Yancheng County was changed.

In the seventh year of Tang Wude (624), the abandoned state was restored to Yancheng County, which belonged to Chuzhou. In the first year of Gan Yuan (758), the Governor of Yancheng was appointed to take charge of Chuzhou salt affairs. In the first year of Southern Tang Dynasty (937), it was placed in Taizhou, and Hailing was stationed in Dongtai Field to supervise the south and north saltworks. Dongtai's name began to appear in history books.

1May, 949, the 1st and 5th divisions of Jiangsu-Anhui Border Region were changed to Taizhou Administrative Region and Yancheng Administrative Region. Yancheng Administrative Region governs Yancheng, Yandong, Jianyang, Funing, Fudong, Sheyang, Binhai, Huai 'an and Li Andong counties, while Dongtai and Taipei belong to Taizhou Administrative Region. 165438+ 10 Yandong and Fudong were merged into Sheyang and Binhai respectively.

From 1950 to 1, Dongtai and Taipei belong to Yancheng administrative region.
