Tomb-Sweeping Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and the first day of October are the days to worship ancestors. Is this superstition?
On the first day of October, regardless of the new grave or the old grave, future generations and men at home will go to the grave. If you look at the rural streets at this time, you should see men walking up the mountain in twos and threes, carrying shovels, baskets with sacrifices and burning paper. On October 1st, that is, today, men who go to graves will go to their ancestors' graves to press paper, cultivate soil, offer sacrifices and kowtow.
The custom of Mid-Autumn Festival has a long history in China, and it is a fine tradition for people to pursue the future cautiously and remember their ancestors. Folk ancestor worship activities are generally held four times a year. Spring Festival and July 15th are family sacrifices, which are mainly held at home. The Spring Festival in Tomb-Sweeping Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival on the first day of the 10th lunar month are both field festivals.
The activities and ceremonies of the Autumn Festival and the Spring Festival are basically the same: a sacrificial opening is placed after going to the grave, and three incense burners are inserted in front of the grave. It is necessary to press paper money and fill the graves of ancestors, remove weeds and dead trees from the graves, and then burn paper money, set off firecrackers and kowtow. It should be noted that paper money in Tomb-Sweeping Day is burned on a single piece of paper, because the weather is getting warmer and warmer, which means changing summer clothes for ancestors. On the first day of 10, the paper was laminated. As the saying goes, it is snow after the winter festival. Because the weather turns cold, it is called changing cotton-padded clothes for ancestors, so this day is also called Cold Clothes Festival.
