When is the Wetland Protection Day?
On February 2, a global intergovernmental convention on protection, the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat, was signed in Ramsar, Iran.
The Convention on Wetlands (also known as RamsarConvention) is a global intergovernmental convention to protect wetlands, which is called the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat. The purpose of the Convention on Wetlands is to protect and rationally utilize wetlands through national actions and international cooperation.
The Convention on Wetlands was signed in Ramsar, Iran on February 2, 197 1, when there were 18 initiating States parties. The Convention on Wetlands came into force on June 5438, 2004+June 5438, 0975+February 265438+10. The Ramsar Convention has a total of 168 parties, and the List of Wetlands of International Importance covers 2 170 wetlands with a total area of over 2.07 million square kilometers. China acceded to the Convention on Wetlands on 1992.
To commemorate the signing of the Convention on Wetlands, February 2nd every year is designated as World Wetlands Day.
