Geological features:

Pingyang belongs to the basement uplift zone along the Pacific coast of Zhejiang and Fujian. About 600 million years ago, the foundation stone was laid in the Far Proterozoic Sinian period. Later, influenced by the Paleozoic tectonic movement, the ground gradually rose, and a series of inland mountain basins in Northeast China appeared. Volcanic eruption began in Mesozoic Jurassic (about 65438+400 million years ago) and ended in the end of Cretaceous (about 70 million years ago). South Yandang Mountain is one of the volcanic eruption areas. Some people think that Tian Yang Lake on the mountain in front of Nanyan Fan Yan is an ancient crater lake. Beigang area with Shanmen as the center is a volcanic fault basin, and there are traces of Mesozoic volcanic structures with neighboring volcanic basins such as Fanshan and Wencheng. A large number of volcanic rocks erupted by the volcano covered most of the territory of the county, mainly rhyolitic pyroclastic rocks and acid lava. Since then, acidic magma containing more silica has continued to move and formed a wide range of volcanic rocks and intrusions. Until Tertiary (about 25 million years ago), volcanism stopped, and under the condition of overall uplift, the erosion and denudation of county territory intensified, forming a large area of sediments in Quaternary. Pingyang is dominated by volcanic landforms, followed by sedimentary landforms, so its types are complex, including Zhongshan (1000m above), low mountains (500-1000m below), hills (500m below), valleys, plains, rivers, beaches and islands and reefs. The South Yandang Mountain Range and the Aojiang River system run through the whole territory, and the terrain is high in the west and low in the east. Due to the long-term sinking of the coast, there are many islands and trumpet-shaped coasts along the coast, and the coastline is tortuous, which belongs to rias-type sinking coast.
