What month is the winter month?
Winter Moon, also known as Gu Yue, Long Moon, October and Midwinter, is another name for November of the lunar calendar. The winter solstice in the twenty-four solar terms is in November of the lunar calendar, so November of the lunar calendar is called the winter month.
"Historical Records: The Book of Zen" contains: "The Yellow Emperor's strategy of getting a treasure tripod is to be strong with old age, to win the winter solstice, to win the discipline of heaven, and to start all over again." In other words, in the Yellow Emperor's place, the winter solstice is regarded as New Year's Day (New Moon Festival).
This proves that the winter solstice is a year, also known as "the beginning of a year" and "New Year's Day". Later, there was a saying that the winter solstice was as big as a year, which originally came from here. Because the winter solstice is the beginning of a new year, it was called "New Year's Day" at that time, and this day is usually in November of the lunar calendar, so November is also called the second month.
