How is piglet diarrhea?
Piglet yellow dysentery, also known as early-onset colibacillosis, is an acute and fatal infectious disease of newborn piglets, which is caused by some serotypes of pathogenic Escherichia coli. With high morbidity and mortality, it is a common infectious disease in pig farms. If the treatment is not timely, it will cause serious economic losses.
The disease usually occurs within a few hours to five days after birth. 1 ~ 3 days old is the most common, and the incidence of piglets over 7 days old is rare. The disease was not found in shelf pigs, reserve pigs and breeding pigs. In the farrowing season, many farrowing babies often get sick, and the highest incidence rate of farrowing babies can reach 100%. The morbidity and mortality of primiparous sows are the highest, and sometimes they can kill the whole litter of piglets.
The most acute piglets, with no obvious symptoms, died suddenly more than 10 hour after birth, and became ill more than 2 ~ 3 days after birth. The course of the disease is a little longer, and the feces are yellow and watery, with small pieces of curd and loose anus, and loose feces flow out of the anus when grasping. The tip of the sow's vulva can appear red, and the hind limbs are stained with feces. The sick pig was depressed, did not eat milk, soon lost weight, dehydrated, and finally died of exhaustion.
The pathological changes of the disease are subcutaneous edema in the neck and abdomen, a large amount of yellow liquid contents and gas in the intestine, acute catarrhal inflammation of the intestinal mucosa, dilatation of the intestinal cavity, thinning of the intestinal wall and redness of the intestinal mucosa. The most serious lesion is duodenum, followed by jejunum and ileum, and the colon is lighter. There are diffuse small bleeding spots in mesenteric lymph nodes. The heart, liver and kidney have degeneration, and in severe cases there is bleeding point.
The diagnosis method is based on the age of onset, that is, it is more common in piglets aged 2 ~ 3 days, with higher morbidity and mortality, especially the most acute sudden death.
Diagnosis can be made by taking feces, intestinal contents and intestinal lymph node pathological materials for bacterial culture.
