Huo Yuanjia is directed by Baishan, written by Guo Jingyu and directed by Liu Fang. The play tells the legendary story of Huo Yuanjia, a generation of martial arts master, who resisted foreign forces and defended national dignity with the spirit of Chinese martial arts in the late Qing Dynasty. The play premiered on the TV drama channel of CCTV on July 28th, 2020, and was simultaneously broadcast on iQiyi.

Story background

After the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898, the "six gentlemen" died for their country. Deeply influenced by Tan Sitong's patriotic enthusiasm, Huo Yuanjia tried to make a difference in the torrent of history, but he repeatedly ran into a wall and could only watch the hero die. Soon after, Eight-Nation Alliance invaded China, and Wang Wu's sword broke into pieces to resist foreign aggression.

Huo Yuanjia went to collect the body for Yidi overnight after learning the news. Although Wang Wu was allowed to keep the whole body, it caused a great disaster to Huo's family, which led to Huo Gong's death. A year later, Huo Yuanjia, who lived in seclusion in Cangzhou, walked out of a road of no return, but he didn't want to fall into the trap of his enemy again. Although he got rid of the relationship, he was disheartened and decided to go south to Shanghai.
