Excuse me, who can tell me the historical story of Sao Paulo archway in Macau? Thank you.

More than 400 years ago, the Portuguese occupied Macao and brought Catholicism to Macao. 1562, the Portuguese built this church in Macao for several years and named it "St. Paul's Church". The pronunciation of "Sao Paulo" in Portuguese is close to that of "March 8th" in Cantonese, so it is also called "March 8th Church".

Later, the church was destroyed by fire twice. 1602, St. Paul's church was rebuilt again, and it was completed in 1637 35 years later. /kloc-a fire in 0/835 destroyed the church again, leaving only the front wall costing 32,000 silver, which is today's St. Paul's archway.

2. Opium was originally imported into China from the port under the bus, with an average of 20,000 boxes per year. Until 1946, smoking opium in Macao was still legal. After the Opium War, the Portuguese followed the great powers, overtook the Portuguese residential area bounded by Sanpaoba by force, expanded northward, occupied the entire Macao Peninsula, and began to colonize Macao, becoming the command base for British invasion of China.

Huawangtang Street, not far from Dasanba, was once the famous "Pig Street", and there were more than 300 museums selling Chinese workers along the street. At that time, there were tens of thousands of foreigners specializing in human trafficking in Macao. They used deception, kidnapping and other means to forcibly export China laborers, and many people were buried in the sea. 1922 On May 29th, Portuguese troops openly shot and killed more than 70 people in China and injured 100 people.

The building structure of the large dam;

This church is a posh style. The front wall is made of granite. There are 5 floors up and down, and the left and right can be divided into 9 grids from the third floor. There is a stone flagpole clip on the right side of the front wall (the pair on the left no longer exists), and there are 68 classes below, which does not match the position of the church.

The first floor is a triangular mountain flower with a bronze dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit, with the sun, moon and stars on the left and right. There is a cross at the top.

In the middle of the second floor is little Jesus, surrounded by instruments of torture that crucified him. It consists of four mixed pilasters with angel bas-relief between them and arc gables on both sides of the pillars.

In the center of the third floor, the Virgin Mary ascended to heaven, and the angels played music to celebrate, surrounded by peonies and chrysanthemums (symbolizing Christian technicians from China and Japan).

The fourth floor consists of 10 Corinthian columns and three windows. The lintel is decorated with seven rose reliefs, the middle window is decorated with palm trees, and niches are symmetrically arranged between the columns on both sides of the side window hole to worship the four saints.

The fifth-floor archway has three entrances and 10 supporting and decorative walls, three on each side of the main entrance and two on each side of the side door. Italy's "MATER DEI" is written on the main entrance (meaning that this church is dedicated to the mother of God and has the meaning of the door to heaven). There is a relief pattern of Jesuit slogan IHS (meaning savior of mankind) on the lintel of the side door.
