A brief history of Ningxia's water conservancy development: Ningxia managed the Guo Shoujing in Yuan Dynasty

After more than 20 years' war of conquering Xixia by Mongolian army, the social economy of Ningxia Plain was seriously damaged, and the irrigation area of Yellow River diversion with a long history showed a bleak picture of "the ancient canal was blocked, the sediment was shallow" and "the fields were barren and the lives were ruined". The statue of Ningxia Irrigation District in Guo Shoujing reached the first year of Yuan Dynasty (1264). Kublai Khan appointed Zhongshu Zuocheng Zhang Qian Wen as the governor of Xixia Zhongxing and other provinces, and ordered the canals to lift Guo Shoujing counterparts to be responsible for the revival of Ningxia Plain. After Guo Shoujing came to Ningxia, he first traveled all over the banks of the Yellow River, made a detailed investigation on the number, length and number of irrigation fields of main canals and branch canals in Ningxia, and got an in-depth understanding of the local topography, water regime, irrigation history and experience in controlling water and silt. On this basis, Guo Shoujing presided over the construction of the dam control project, improved the irrigation and drainage system of the Yellow River Diversion Project in Ningxia Plain, and improved the control ability of the pipes and canals. Newly opened Spider Canal (Meili Canal) irrigates nearly 3,000 mu of farmland in Zhongwei area. 1975 1 1.5 before the main project of the east main canal was completed and water was delivered, the Guo Shoujing of the water intake of Tanglai Canal was changed from dredging to damming sluice, which realized the ability of human beings from water storage to water control. This is a progress in the history of artificial irrigation, and it is still the main method of water control in Ningxia Yellow River Diversion Irrigation Area. In the 26th year (1289), Yuan Shizu "re-established the Agricultural Department in Ningxia Province", and in the second year (1309), he was in charge of agricultural water conservancy in Ningxia Lihe Canal Department.
