The historical origin of Shoushan stone;
In the Yuan Dynasty, pyrophyllite was used as a printing material by seal engravers, making Shoushan stone the first of the "three treasures of stone printing" and stepping onto the palace of elegant culture. In addition, emperors and generals in Ming and Qing dynasties loved it in every way, thus forming a unique folk craft and cultural history of Shoushan stone carving art from germination to development to prosperity.
The collection of Shoushan Stone began as early as the early Ming Dynasty. Because during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, the Shoushan Guangying Courtyard in Shoushan Village, which was built by Tang Guangqi in three years, was burned down in the fire. After the fire, there were many Shoushan stones in the former site of Guangyingyuan, later called "Siping Stone".
According to records, Cao discovered and began to collect Tian Huangshi in the late Ming Dynasty. In the Qing Dynasty, "Shoushan Stone Fever" was in full swing all over the country, so when collecting Shoushan Stone carvings, it also set off a craze for collecting Shoushan Stone. Moreover, Tian Huangshi in Shoushan Stone at that time had the value of "ten times of easy gold".
During the Republic of China, the wind of seal cutting was extremely prosperous, and a large number of collectors specialized in seal cutting emerged, and Shoushan stone carving was once popular. Shoushan stone seal is as clean as jade, soft and easy to engrave, which is deeply appreciated by painters and seal engravers.
