What do "Huang Er" and "Xipi" in Beijing Opera mean?
Yellow skin: the collective name of Xipi and Huanger. Xipi originated from Qin Opera, while Huang Er evolved from Blowing Opera and Gao Bazi. In some operas, Xipi and Huanger are also called "North Road" and "South Road" respectively. In the early Qing Dynasty, Xipi was the main melody of Han Opera and Huang Er was the main melody of Hui Opera. With the confluence of Han and Hui tunes, Peking Opera has been widely spread all over the country, and gradually formed a vocal music system, which has had an impact on various operas in the south. Because Peking Opera is the most popular in the Pihuang system, Pihuang also refers to Peking Opera.
