Where does Huangmei Opera come from?

Huangmei Opera belongs to Anhui.

Huangmei Opera originated from the unique opera "Huaiqiang" sung in the mountainous area in Anqing, Anhui Province. At the end of Qing Dynasty, Hubei Huangmei tea-picking tune was introduced into neighboring areas such as Huaining County, Anhui Province, and combined with local folk art, singing in Anqing dialect gradually developed into a new kind of drama.

At that time, it was called Huai Qiang or Huai Diao, which was an early Huangmei opera. Later, Huangmei Opera borrowed and absorbed the music, performances and repertoires of Qingyang Opera and Huizhou Opera, and began to perform "this drama". Later, with Anqing as the center, after 100 years of development, Huangmei Opera became the main local opera in Anhui and a well-known big drama in China.
