What is C?

C is a letter symbol.

C (uppercase) and c (lowercase) are the third alphabetical order in English and 19 alphabetical order in Russian. For example, the first letter of the English word cloud and the Russian abbreviation сср of "Soviet Union" is C.

Origin:

(1) The letter C may be due to a symbol of throwing a stick. Like the hieroglyphics in ancient Egypt, it appeared in Semitic writing very early-in Sinai Peninsula around 1500 BC.

(2) About 1000 BC, this symbol was a specific linear form in Biblus (an ancient Mediterranean port city, located in Jubail, now north of Beirut, Lebanon, and became a prosperous Phoenician city in the second millennium BC), other parts of Phoenicia and the center of Canaan.

(3) For all linear forms. In semitic, this symbol is called gimel or gaml, which means to throw a stick.
