What is rosewood?

Dalbergia is a plant belonging to Dalbergia of Papilionaceae.

The sapwood of yellow pear wood is light in color, with a width of 8 to 10cm, which is obviously different. Heartwood has reddish brown to yellow stripes, so it is often called Dalbergia africana, Dalbergia odorifera, also known as Huanghua pear. The growth rings of Castanea mollissima are not obvious, which can only be seen under the magnifying glass of the pipe hole; Dispersed; Rarely; Slightly smaller; Dalbergia odorifera contains colloid, which is invisible under the magnifying glass of axial parenchyma.

Dalbergia odorifera can be divided into two categories according to whether its heartwood is obvious or not: obvious heartwood and hidden heartwood.

Dalbergia odorifera

This kind of rosewood has obvious heartwood, which is chestnut brown, reddish brown or dark reddish brown. It is a good material for high-grade furniture, sculpture and decoration. China's standard "Redwood" lists 16 species of Dalbergia at home and abroad as redwood, and then divides them into three categories: rosewood, rosewood and rosewood.

Fragrant rosewood refers to Dalbergia odorifera produced in Hainan Province, and its heartwood is yellowish brown, reddish brown or dark reddish brown, with strong spicy taste. Commonly known as "Huang Huali". The heartwood of this kind of red sandalwood is reddish-brown or purple-red-brown, and its aroma is strong or light, hence the name. Originally called "sour purple", it was later changed to "sour branch", which is a popular name. Black rosewood, the heartwood of this kind of rosewood is often dark brown, chestnut brown or purple brown, with a strong or light sour flavor, hence the name black rosewood (purple). Like rosewood, standard rosewood also retains and adopts this folk historical title.

Mysterious rosewood

There is no obvious difference between the heartwood and sapwood of this kind of rosewood, and the wood is light yellow brown; Irregular trauma spots often appear near pith and joint scars or injuries, showing dark brown patches. The structure of wood is similar to rosewood, and it can be divided into soft and hard according to the material.

Soft rosewood, which is lighter and softer, has always been the first choice for shoe last wood used by people and factories in China. Although its material is light, it has good elasticity and toughness, and is light and durable. Hard rosewood has the characteristics of being heavy, hard, strong, tough, non-cracking and less deformed.

Although there are many Dalbergia trees, the wood is only divided into the above categories. Because they belong to the same plant, there are many similarities in cell structure, such as porous substances and scattered stomata; Wood rays are thin and overlapping, and the section is wavy; Axial parenchyma cells are winged, multi-winged and banded. The difference is the appearance of heartwood, the color of heartwood, its density, hardness, strength and durability, which can be distinguished. Therefore, different uses have different economic values.

The root bark of Dalbergia odorifera has certain medicinal value. Its root bark is used as medicine, and it tastes pungent, bitter and flat when dug in summer and autumn. Has the effect of clearing away heat.

The air-dried density of redwood is 0.82g/cm3.
