Appreciation of Yu Guangzhong's Cuju
The cuckoo is a modern poem by Yu Guangzhong, a famous poet in Taiwan Province. Yu Guangzhong's deepest impression on mainland readers is singing homesickness on both sides of the strait. In fact, in my opinion, the poem "The Cuckoo" is not inferior to "Homesickness" in content, literary attainments and ideological expression.
The content of the whole poem is actually very simple, and it is naturally divided into two parts by "urging me to go home one by one". In fact, the first part is a modern translation and embellishment supplement to the Tang poem "The Shepherd Fingers Xinghua Village". Explain the time, place, people, actions and stories. The hazy appearance of Jiangnan water town imagined by the author at this time brings readers into an uninhabited and quiet world, and everything is so comfortable and easy-going. The second half is the expression and complaint of the theme of the poem "It is better to go home". When I was a child, the scene of my hometown still appeared in front of me, urging the old man who had been wandering for half his life to go back to his hometown and make him homesick. But the real hometown is already the feeling of "the local accent has not changed, laughing and asking where the tourists come from". In Xinghua village, the vulgar popular beer was sold, the shepherd boy disappeared, the hazy poetic layer of ink painting disappeared, and the hometown that the poet thought of disappeared. However, as the poet said, even so, the homesickness hidden behind the drizzle is still infinite. In fact, apart from missing his hometown, the poet made no secret of his worries and heartache about the vulgarization of rural landscape in mainland China after commercialization and opening up. Whether it is beer or an excavator that wantonly destroys the quiet life in the countryside, it is the cause of the poet's heartbreak. From the poet's point of view, a place full of homesickness should not be an invasion position of socialized mass production or vulgar commerce, but an invisible dissatisfaction and resistance to the blind development of the mainland and the loss of its original style.
The style of this poem is fresh and elegant, and one word after another is logical, instead of piling up uncommon words or irrelevant words like many modern poems now. The poet seems to be chatting with readers, lying on the cane chair under the apricot tree, sipping mellow tea or pouring delicious apricot blossom village into his mouth, and slowly telling stories to readers ... rainy Tomb-Sweeping Day, bagpiper riding backwards on cows on cloudy days, looking forward to the invisible Jiangnan, imagining the pastoral scenery of Jiangnan during the Qingming period: the old yellow calendar, the ridge, the shepherd boy, the apricot blossom village, the ink painting ... Dai Wangshu's Rain Lane immediately showed a trace of bitterness, helplessness, sadness and homesickness, but it was not as hopeless and desperate as described in Rain Lane, because there were still various obstacles or difficulties in returning home. Because the beautiful image of my hometown in the past still has an indelible position in the poet's mind and has an indelible influence on the poet.
Compared with homesickness, which simply expresses longing and feelings for the mainland, hometown and old life, in The Cuckoo, the poet not only shows his sadness, dissatisfaction, strangeness and helplessness in a direct and almost ironic way, but also shows his hometown by intruding on the normal and peaceful life of modern commercial society and vulgar culture. The yearning for a simple and ordinary life, the unattainable hope, and the helplessness of hope failure. The short poetic structure fully embodies the architectural features of poetry and also shows the consistent style of Yu Guangzhong's poetry. The fast rhythm and natural segmentation make readers fully feel a strong sense of jumping when reading. However, the poem is a bit too long, too protracted and lengthy. It seems that it is intended to use a short and compact poem to express some common scenery in the Qingming period in Jiangnan. The last few sentences of the poem should not only express the poet's longing for his hometown, but also insert some dissatisfaction with today's life. Some people may think that these simple words are the finishing touch, but in my opinion, Jiang Lang, who linked these two things like a dog's tail and a mink, is exhausted and can't write a better homesickness.
But on the whole, I like this poem better: the rhythm is light, the words are fresh, the words are refined and unpretentious, and they are hidden and looming. As the poet wrote, there really is a bagpiper who plays a melancholy aria with a bitter voice on a cloudy day, giving people infinite reverie and infinite desire.
