What are World Telecommunication Day and Information Society Day?

In order to commemorate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and emphasize the role of telecommunications in the national economic development and people's lives, the 23rd executive board of ITU decided to designate May 17, the founding day of ITU, as World Telecommunication Day. On March 27th, 2006, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a decision to designate May 6th to 7th as World Information Society Day. Therefore, on May 6-7, 2006, the International Telecommunication Union held publicity activities for the 38th World Telecommunication Day and the first World Information Society Day. In June165438+1October of the same year, the International Telecommunication Union held a plenipotentiary conference and decided to merge the annual World Telecommunication Day and World Information Society Day into World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
