In which period did Hetao Yellow River Diversion Irrigation originate?

Hetao refers to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region along the Yellow River, east of Helan Mountain and south of Langshan Mountain and Daqingshan Mountain, hence the name. Hetao area has a long history of diverting water from the Yellow River for irrigation. According to the Records of Hanshu Valley, during the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, "Shuofang, Xihe, Hexi and Jiuquan all led river valleys to irrigate fields", in which Shuofang refers to the Hetao area in Inner Mongolia today and Hexi refers to Ningxia and Hexi Corridor. Irrigation from the Yellow River shows that irrigation from the Yellow River in Hetao area began in the Western Han Dynasty. However, large-scale irrigation from the Yellow River, whether it is Hetao irrigation area in Inner Mongolia or Hetao irrigation area in Ningxia, was in the Qing Dynasty.
