What is a white tiger?

The White Tiger is one of the four spirits in ancient China mythology.

The white tiger (H incarnation) originated from the worship of stars in ancient times. The gods of the West represent the seven nights of Shao Hao and the West. It is the main gold in the gossip, symbolizing the lack of yin in the four elephants, and autumn in the four seasons is also the land of the West. It is also one of the five beasts in Huainanzi, namely the Four Spirits of Heaven and Huanglong, also known as the Five Beasts of Heaven. People think that Qinglong, Baihu, Suzaku and Xuanwu created the world and are the masters of heaven and earth.

The white tiger has many magical powers, such as avoiding evil, avoiding disasters, praying for blessings, punishing evil and promoting good, getting rich and getting married. From a star to seven of the 28 stars in the west: Kui, Lou, Wei, Chang, Bi, Gou and Shen. Therefore, it is the representative of the west, and its white color is white because the west belongs to gold in the five elements. So white is said from the five elements.

In addition to the four spirits in Taoism, including the dragon and the white tiger, even when the geomancer explores the cemetery, the protruding terrain on the left and right sides in front of the terrain can be used as graves. They all have unique titles, called Zuo Qinglong and Right White Tiger, to take the meaning of their guards. They also have the same decoration in the court, and dragons and white tigers are painted on the left and right pillars to suppress evil spirits.

After the rise of Taoism, Dragon and Tiger were borrowed as Taoist alchemy terms, referring to the agreement words of "lead and mercury, stagnation, fire and water, yin and yang". Another way of saying this is that sex belongs to wood, and wood represents the East. In divination, it is an earthquake, so it is a dragon. Love belongs to gold, gold represents the west, and the hexagrams are exchanged, which is golden white, so it is called white tiger.

"Custom Yi Tong" says: "Tiger, penis, the length of all animals, can beat sharp, eat ghosts." In the concept of five elements in Han dynasty, the white tiger was regarded as a western god beast.
