Children's full moon custom

The full moon, also known as "the joy of next month", is one month after the baby is born. People think that one month after a baby is born is a difficult period. In order to celebrate children's difficulties, a full moon ceremony is usually held to wish the baby a healthy growth.

According to local customs and traditions, different places have different full moon ceremonies. Let's take a look at these customs ~

1 full moon wine

Full moon wine is the most common custom. In many places, full moon wine will be given to babies to entertain relatives and friends. Some people will eat "Zi Yuan" on full moon wine, which means that babies will be "future champions". Others will eat "happy noodles", which means that the baby "lives long".

Step 2 send red eggs

After eating the full moon wine, the host family will send red eggs and longevity red fruits (peanuts) to the guests, not only the guests, but also distribute red eggs, "longevity red fruits" and "longevity noodles" to the neighbors on the day or the next day of the full moon wine to share their joy.

Step 3 hang money

After eating the full moon wine, the mother will take her child back to her mother's house. There will be a black spot on her nose when she leaves home, and a white spot on her nose when she comes home. Grandma will give her a red envelope and call it "hanging money", which means that hanging money on her body means that she will be rich all her life.

Step 4 shave your baby's hair

Shaving fetal hair is also a common full moon custom. People think that shaving fetal hair will bring blessings to children, and their hair will grow thicker and darker in the future, so they will choose the auspicious day of the zodiac and find a respected elder to shave their baby.

"Shaving the full moon head" can't shave all the baby's hair. It will leave a small piece of "smart hair" in the center of the forehead and a lock of "root hair" in the back of the head, which means that children are smart, rooted and live long. Some people will also make the freshly shaved hair into a fetal hair brush, or rub the fetal hair into a pigtail and wrap it in red silk.

In some places, the bride's family cuts the baby's fetal hair, which is called "hinge head". There is also a saying that "one hinge is gold, two hinges are silver, and three hinges are a large group of mules and horses", and symbolically hinges the ears, eyes, mouth, nose and toes to make the baby "perfect" when he grows up.

Please send Geng.

In some areas, the auspicious day of the ecliptic will be held before the full moon, when newborns will be given gold and silver ornaments such as baby clothes, swaddling clothes, silver collars, celestial official cards, eight diagrams, anklets and bracelets to ward off evil spirits, so as to lock children and prevent them from suffering disasters and longevity. This ceremony is called "Please send Geng".

Step 6 hang the flag

In some areas of Shanxi, when children have a full moon, people who are related to each other will unite to buy 300 feet of cloth for the main house of the full moon, and then sew the clothes (such as coats and trousers) bought by each family on it with pins or threads. When the children have a full moon, give this cloth together with the clothes on it as a gift to the full moon family and hang it above the yard to celebrate.

Step 7 turn the doll

On the full moon, some places will dye the baby's eyebrows and face red, wrap them tightly with a small quilt, and then put an onion and garlic in the baby's arms. The oldest person in the family will take the baby out of the house and walk around the village, indicating that the baby has seen the light of day again and parents can take the baby out to visit relatives and friends.

8. Opening ceremony

In some places, at the full moon, the main family will prepare three kinds of sacrifices: chicken, fish and eggs, and the mother will bow down to the "in-laws" with her baby in her arms. After the worship, the mother will lick a small fish on the baby with chopsticks.

9. Out of the nest

After the child is full moon, the grandmother's family will take her grandson and daughter back to her mother's house, which is called "leaving the nest", and in some places it is called "full moon walk".

No matter what custom it is, it is actually the best wishes of family and friends to the baby, but mom and dad should remember to do what they can according to the baby's specific situation. After all, the baby is only one month old and still very fragile, so don't affect the baby's normal rest.
