What does engagement matter?
Engagement is the time to determine the relationship between men and women. Generally, when you are engaged, you will exchange engagement gifts and then choose the wedding date. Although engagement is a wedding custom, it is not a necessary process when getting married. In some places, the wedding ceremony is held directly without engagement. Although engagement is a verbal engagement, not as formal as marriage, it can be regarded as the relationship between unmarried couples for both men and women. Generally speaking, two people will hold a wedding shortly after their engagement.
In traditional weddings, an engagement ceremony must be held, but every place has its own customs. Up to now, few people hold an engagement ceremony when they get married. But in some places, participation is necessary. Therefore, whether or not to get married depends on local customs.
Different from marriage
Although there is only one word difference between engagement and marriage, the difference between them is quite different. They are essentially different. Engagement is only an oral agreement, which has no legal effect and is not protected by law, but marriage is completely different. Marriage has legal effect, is a real marriage, is protected by law, and husband and wife can do anything.
The engagement of men and women means that they have the will to get married, and then the man holds a banquet to entertain important family members of both parties to show their determination to get married. However, engagement can't be considered as a real husband and wife just because they don't get a license, not to mention the situation of engagement and regret. Therefore, engagement is only a ceremony before marriage, which is obviously very different from getting married with a license, so don't confuse engagement with marriage.
