Why did the ancients respect the right and the left?

Most of the time, the ancients in China respected the left. Indeed, it is not wrong for Sima Qian to say that "you can't be the best". The ancients did have the custom of respecting power. The problem is that Sima Qian has been two thousand years, and the respect for power is already an old imperial calendar. People in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties were also ancients, but they all respected the left.
