Rizhao is a prefecture-level city in the southeast of Shandong Province. Rizhao is a huge place in Zhou Dynasty, Langya County in Qin Dynasty, Haiqu County in Western Han Dynasty, Chengyang County in Three Kingdoms Wei Dynasty and Liangxiang County in Northern Wei Dynasty. Sui Dynasty belongs to Juxian County, Langya County, and Tang and Song Dynasties belong to Mizhou. 1087 (in the second year of Song Dynasty), Rizhao Town was located in Juxian County, hence the name of Rizhao.

Rizhao County was established in 1 184 (twenty-four years of Jin Dading) and belongs to Juzhou, Yidufu. The Yuan Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty followed closely. Qing belongs to Yizhou Prefecture. 1June 1989, Rizhao was upgraded to a prefecture-level city. It borders the Yellow Sea in the east, Linyi City in the west, Lianyungang City in Jiangsu Province in the south, Qingdao City and Weifang City in the north. It is about 82 kilometers long from north to south and 90 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 5358.57 square kilometers.

Rizhao is located in the hilly area of eastern Shandong, with the terrain generally facing the sea, high in the middle and low around, slightly inclined to the southeast, with mountains, hills and plains alternately distributed. Rizhao City spans three tertiary structural units: Jiaonan Uplift, Jiaolai Depression and Yishu Fault Zone. The exposed strata are complete, the structure is complex, and the magmatic activity is strong, forming relatively rich mineral resources such as nonmetal, groundwater and mineral water.
