Tidal table of Qiantang River in 2023
The spring tide in Qiantang River is the largest on August 18 of the lunar calendar, and it can be seen from the first day to the fifth day of the lunar month, and from 15 to 20 of the lunar month, so you can watch the tide on 120 days a year. A seawall in the southeast of Yan Guan Town, Haining County is the first good place to go. The tide here is the most abundant, characterized by the first line, so it is called "the first line tide of Haining Pagoda".
At the beginning of the tide, a white river flashed across the horizon, accompanied by a rumbling sound, like a dull thunder rolling on the horizon. The tide is coming from all directions. Like a flock of white swans in a row, flapping their wings and flying.
The tide rises and falls, and the singing skills are getting stronger and stronger. In an instant, the white training peak came into my eyes. A water wall three or four meters high stood upright on the river, pouring waves and splashing pearls and jade. This is Malik Pentium. The tide rushed to the seawall and set off a 9-meter-high tidal peak. Sure enough, "the sky is full of turbid waves, turning the river over!"
Causes of tidal bore in Qiantang River;
The tidal bore in Qiantang River is caused by the centrifugal effect of celestial gravity and the earth's rotation, and the special topography of the bell mouth of Qiantang River in Hangzhou Bay. First of all, this is related to the shape and special topography of Hangzhou Bay where Qiantang River enters the sea. Hangzhou Bay is trumpet-shaped with a big mouth and a small belly. Since the west of Ganpu, the channel of Qiantang River has been sharply narrowed and raised, resulting in a sharp decrease in the riverbed capacity and a large number of tides flooding into the narrow and shallow channel.
The tidal head is blocked, and the tide behind it advances rapidly, forcing the tidal head to stand, break and roar, forming a thrilling spectacle. There are many trumpet-shaped river estuaries, but few estuaries can form tidal bore. Qiantang River is honored to be included in this minority, and tidal bore is also related to the ratio of the speed of water flow to the speed of tidal wave in the river. If the speed of the two is the same or similar, it will be beneficial to the generation of tidal bore.
If the speed difference between the two is far, even if there is a trumpet-shaped estuary, a tidal bore cannot be formed. In addition, tidal bore can be formed in the estuary, which is related to tidal range in other places. Because Hangzhou Bay is located on the west coast of the East China Sea, the tidal range between Hangzhou Bay and the East China Sea is larger than that of the East China Sea. The tidal waves in the Pacific Ocean enter the East China Sea from the northeast, and are deflected to the right by the geostrophic bias in the process of going south, so that the tidal range between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is greater than that on the east coast.
