Twelve o'clock is a time mechanism summarized by the ancient people in China according to the laws of the sun rising and setting in a day, combined with their own work and living habits. In ancient China, a day was divided into twelve hours, and each hour was equivalent to two hours today. According to legend, people in ancient China named each time according to the time when animals appeared in the China Zodiac.
Twelve-hour system was adopted in the Western Zhou Dynasty. In the Han dynasty, it was named midnight, crow, pingdan, sunrise, food time, corner, day, sundial, sunset, dusk and people's decision. It is also represented by the twelve earthly branches, with the midnight from 23: 00 to 1: 00 as the sub-hour, 1: 00 to 3: 00 as the sub-hour, and 3: 00 to 5: 00 as the Yin Shi time, which are circulated in turn.
