What does dumb year mean?
The so-called "dumb year" is the year before beginning of spring, also known as "widowed year". 2005 was a depressed year, and so was 2002. The year of Renwu (Year of Horse) is a lunar year without "beginning of spring" solar terms. Beginning of spring appeared on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month in the previous year (Xinsi year) and the fourth day of the first month in the next year (Guiwei year).
In addition to the year of beginning of spring, there are two beginning of spring in the lunar year, which are called Er Quan or Er Quan. In some years, beginning of spring happens to be the first day of the Lunar New Year, which is called "Tongchun". All these situations are to solve the differences between the lunar calendar and the Gregorian calendar, which is in line with the lunar calendar's "three-year leap and nineteen-year leap" method.
