Mazu's birthday is on March 23rd of the lunar calendar.

Mazu was born. Mazu was born on March 23rd, the first year of Stegosaurus in Song Taizu (960), and ascended to heaven on September 9th, the fourth year of Yongxi in Song Taizong (987). At present, March 23rd of the lunar calendar is considered as Mazu's birthday, and the ninth day of September is considered as Mazu's sacrificial day to ascend to heaven.

Mazu's birthday is regarded as a "holy day" by the people. People offer sacrifices, perform programs, wander around and pray for good weather. Every household should prepare offerings. The believers dressed up early in the morning, holding flower baskets, and went to the "palace" with incense sticks and candied fruit.

From the 26th year of Shaoxing, Song Gaozong (1 156) to the Qing Dynasty, emperors of all dynasties were conferred titles 36 times, and the title of the country was expanded from 2 words to 64 words.
