From 65438 to 0869 (eight years of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty), Xixiang in Huangyan was rich in bamboo, and there were also many artists engaged in bamboo products in rural areas. A master of bamboo art in Caiyang Village, Dongshan, made bamboo baskets, bamboo boards and bamboo boxes with exquisite craftsmanship. Before the products were sold, they were sent to Chen's workshop and asked to carve patterns on bamboo products, which greatly increased the price. Inspired by this, Chen cooperated with the master to split the bamboo spring from the bamboo, made it into a palm-shaped palm fan, carved with landscapes of people, and called it "elegant fan" to show that it was different from cattail fan, paper fan and banana fan, and it sold well for a while. At the same time, Chen is also engaged in the business of bamboo carving couplets, which is very popular. At that time, the calligraphy of Huangyan county magistrate was very good, and the great calligrapher Zhao was the aide. When Sun is overwhelmed, he often asks Zhao to write for him. When he saw that Chen had high carving skills, he invited the official's son to carve bamboo couplets, and paid 120 cymbals a day. This kind of couplet is elegant and simple, and it is very popular. Calligraphy bamboo couplets written by Zhao and carved by Chen can still be seen in Huangyan. It is really one of the three major sculptures in Zhejiang. " He also collected a palm fan carved by the late old artist Mr. Chen according to Tang Yin's works, and later collected it in the Shanghai Museum. In the same year, CCTV made a special trip to Huangyan to film the whole process of bamboo carving with double reed and broadcast it to the whole country.
