Ephedra is the grass stem of Ephedra, Casuarina equisetifolia and Casuarina equisetifolia. Location: Shanxi, Hebei, Gansu and Inner Mongolia. Primitive plants like cool and dry climate, are cold-tolerant, and are mostly born in sandy soil. The stem of Casuarina equisetifolia is herbaceous and multi-branched, with a diameter of1~1.5mm, no roughness, and an internode length of1.5 ~ 3mm. The membranous scales are 1 to 2mm long, about 2/3 in the lower part are sheath-shaped, and 2 (3) in the upper part are split, short triangle, gray-white, with no inflexion at the top, brownish red to brownish black at the base, and slightly oval at the cross section. Casuarina equisetifolia, with herbaceous stems and many branches, with a diameter of 1.5-3mm, and rough hand feel; Internodes are 3-6 mm long, membranous scales are 2-3 mm long, the lower half is about 1/3, the upper half is 3 (sparse 2), and the top is sharp and slightly bent down. The pith of the cross section is often round and feels. All of them are light green or yellow-green, and the interior color is reddish brown, which is bitter.

According to different processing methods, this product is divided into ephedra, ephedra honey, ephedra velvet, ephedra honey and fried ephedra. After processing, it is stored in a dry container and sealed in a ventilated and dry place.
