What does a rainy year mean?

When there are two solar terms in beginning of spring, there will be a lot of rain. When there is no solar term in beginning of spring, it will be a good year and crops will have a good harvest.

Beginning of spring is the first of the 24 solar terms, also known as "Spring Festival" and "New Year's Eve". The arrival of solar terms in beginning of spring means the end of cold winter and the arrival of warm spring. After beginning of spring, not only the temperature will rise gradually, but also the rainfall will become more and more frequent, so the solar terms in beginning of spring also mean the growth of everything and the beginning of spring ploughing and sowing.

Although the beginning of spring solar term is the first of the 24 solar terms, the beginning of spring solar term does not appear every lunar year. This is because the 24 solar terms are determined according to the position of the sun when it returns to the ecliptic. The 24 solar terms divide the 360-degree ecliptic into 24 equal parts, and each equal part corresponds to a solar term.

The lunar calendar we are talking about now is a method of recording time based on the lunar calendar combined with the solar calendar, which is formed according to the cycle of the phase change of the moon and combined with the 24 solar terms. However, because the calculation methods of lunar calendar and solar calendar are inconsistent, the annual difference between lunar calendar and solar calendar is 1 1 day. In order to narrow the gap between them, we will average them by adding leap months.

In a year with leap months, beginning of spring usually has two solar terms. For example, this year is a leap April, and there are two solar terms in beginning of spring, but there will be no solar terms in beginning of spring in the years after the Double beginning of spring. For example, the coming year 202 1 is a year without spring.
