What is the legend of Huangyao ancient town?

Ha ha. . . . . . . I am from Hezhou, Guangxi! You met the right person!

Huangyao is an ancient town with a history of more than 450 years in Zhaoping County, Hezhou City, Guangxi. Huang Yaoxiang was born in Kaibao period of Song Dynasty, built in Wanli period of Ming Dynasty and flourished in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty.

The ancient town was built in the first year of Kaibao in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 968). At first, there were only two families, one surnamed Huang and the other surnamed Yao, which flourished until the end of the Yuan Dynasty. There are eight surnames here: Huang, Yao, Zou, Mo, Zeng, Deng, Wu and Gu, among which Huang and Yao are the most.

Speaking of the origin of the name of the ancient town, there is a legend related to Yang Jiajiang in the Song Dynasty. According to legend, in the fifth year of Song Kaibao (AD 972), Yang led his troops to Zhaoping. When he passed by, he learned that only Huang and Yao lived here, so he named the town "Huang Yao", which has been used for thousands of years. Now Huangyao ancient town covers an area of 36 hectares, with more than 500 households and more than 2,800 people.

Huangyao Ancient Town, which originated in the Song Dynasty, was once a bustling town where merchants gathered in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Nowadays, the ancient town, which has gone through thousands of years of vicissitudes, has annihilated its once prosperity and noise, and now it has become a dream home that people yearn for with a pair of lead porcelain.

During the Qianlong period, the Huangyao market flourished and most buildings in the block took shape. Because the villages and towns in the past were semi-closed, ancient dwellings and many cultural relics were preserved, so that in this land with rich cultural heritage, historical sites and cultural relics can be seen everywhere. At present, there are eight stone streets in the ancient town, with a total length of 10 kilometers and widths ranging from 2 meters to 5 meters. There are more than 300 ancient buildings in Ming and Qing dynasties, with an area of 1.6 million square meters, which is rare in scale. There are also many landscape buildings, including 10 pavilions, more than 20 temples, 1 1 characteristic bridges and hundreds of couplets. The famous plaque of Xingning Temple "Qie Zuo Kou Qi Cha" was listed as one of the "Famous Plaques in China" by the Ministry of Culture. "Eight Scenes of Huangyao": the ancient stage, Xingning Temple, Wenming Pavilion, Baozhuguan, Tianshengqiao, Juxianyan, Dailongqiao and Kongmingyan are district-level or county-level cultural relics protection units, and their old appearance still exists.

The whole Huangyao ancient town is a complete cultural history of residents in eastern Guangxi. Houses are mostly two-story brick structures. Although it is not as magnificent as a big family in the city, it is beautifully built, and brick carving, stone carving and wood carving all have a high level of craftsmanship. The beams and columns, arches, rafters, walls and ceilings of ancient buildings have been carved and painted in various ways, which are lifelike. Slate street pavement technology is exquisite, the street space scale is pleasant, and the building has advanced and retreated. The overall style of the ancient town is rich and colorful, harmonious and unified, giving people a sense of beauty.

Huang Yao people love the legacy left by their ancestors and are happy to live in these old houses. Even if there is a new house in the new town, the older generation is unwilling to move out. Almost every household here keeps carved beds, square tables, red cabinets and other furniture and ancient costumes and appliances used by ancestors.
