If all farmers stop farming, how will the food problem be solved?

Suppose farmers don't farm and all their food depends on imports, what will happen? People who ask this question mainly want to put pressure on people who depend on food through farmers not farming, hoping that food prices will rise. But this premise assumption has been all wet.

First, what do farmers eat without farming? How do they have a source of income?

At present, we are indeed a serious urban-rural dual structure, and the per capita disposable income of urban residents is much higher than that of rural residents. Of course, this is still in the case of normal farming.

At present, the resident population in rural areas is 580 million, a decrease of130,000 compared with the previous year. Their per capita disposable income is only 1.4 1.7 million yuan. If we don't farm the land, there won't be so many jobs that can be arranged immediately in the town.

The per capita disposable income of urban residents is 3925 1 yuan, which is 2.68 times that of rural residents.

The income of the rural population is simply not enough to eat imported food. In fact, there are 288 million migrant workers in our country, who rely on working in cities and towns to earn income.

Second, the price of grain is determined by marketization.

As long as farmers grow grain, they will certainly not be able to stop selling surplus grain. What's more, the mechanization of grain production is high now, which saves time and effort, and it can't be realized without the support of urban industrial base and supporting facilities. So the food we eat also includes many mechanical costs, fuel costs and labor costs.

In fact, foreign grain is also priced in this way. A professional farmer in the United States can plant thousands of acres of land and allocate labor costs to the lowest. Although the corresponding mechanical cost and fuel cost cannot be reduced, the average share is really not high.

In addition, there are seeds. In fact, the seeds we planted are not stored in the hands of farmers. Many crop seeds are controlled by international seed giants like Monsanto. Genetically modified soybeans in the United States have high oil production and good oil quality. How do businesses and individuals use them? For feelings, for the risk of nothingness? When we buy petroleum products, will we choose a lower price? What about products with better oil quality and better taste? In fact, many times, people vote with their feet, and people really don't care about these things.

Therefore, the price of grain is ultimately determined by the market and cannot be completely controlled by simple import and export restrictions.

Third, it is farmers who suffer from the loss of imported grain.

China's grain self-sufficiency rate is 95%, which can be said to be basically self-sufficient. The self-sufficiency rate of grain in the United States is as high as 130%, which can realize a large number of exports. Like Japan, the food self-sufficiency rate is only 45%~50%, and the Japanese should eat and drink.

The price of really expensive food in Japan is some fresh fruits and vegetables. Meat, flour and rice can be imported in large quantities. Japanese rice is almost self-sufficient, but don't say that Japanese rice never uses pesticides. Pesticide residues in Japan are still very serious. Only some famous and high-quality agricultural products will be strictly controlled, and of course their prices are also insanely high. The most interesting thing is that many so-called imported Japanese rice are actually planted in the northeast according to the requirements of the Japanese, and the production is transferred to domestic sales. Aren't you worried that if you increase the import volume, there will be a large number of domestic products, and the export will turn to domestic sales? As a result, most of the profits were earned by international trading companies.

If farmers want to really benefit and get rid of the current low income situation, they can think from these three aspects: First, improve their knowledge level, scientifically farm their fields, and improve the output of unit labor time. This is the most realistic, the value of the product is the socially necessary labor time condensed in the product. When everyone works the same hours, your output will be higher, and naturally your income will be higher.

Second, do a good job in supply and demand survey to avoid "cheap grain hurts farmers." In fact, many of our agricultural products will be in an intermittent state of oversupply, such as unsalable watermelons, unsalable potatoes and unsalable kohlrabi ... Before planting many agricultural products, farmers only planted them by feeling, and they planted them this year when they made money last year. In fact, we should look at the supply and demand information of agricultural products, including the prices of agricultural products in some futures markets. Try to avoid the situation that everyone can't sell a product and lose money.

Third, increase the added value of agricultural products. Now people don't lack food, what they lack is high-quality food. Really scarce agricultural products are in short supply, such as Jiaozhou Chinese cabbage, Wuchang rice, Changji watermelon and so on. People would rather pay several times or even dozens of times for these high-end agricultural products. Many people will stay away from vegetables that are unsightly and poorly packaged. Therefore, exquisite packaging, careful selection and brand building are very meaningful for raising the price of agricultural products. Output is not the only factor that determines income.

I hope that with more and more national policies to benefit farmers and benefit the people, farmers' income is getting higher and higher and their living standards are getting better and better.
