When is Sakyamuni's Buddha-becoming Day?

Sakyamuni's day of becoming a Buddha is December 8 of the lunar calendar.

The traditional Buddhist festival in China is1February 8, the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, commonly known as Laba Festival. A Buddhist bath was held in the temple, and seven treasures and five flavors of porridge were given to disciples, called Laba porridge. As for the Buddha's enlightenment, he had been ascetic for many years before becoming a monk, and then his chyle, with the help of a shepherdess, recovered her strength and sat quietly under a bodhi tree, watching the stars on the night of the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month and realizing the Tao. From this day on, the suffering beings in the world have the hope and possibility of liberation. ?

Introduction to the story:

After the prince decided to give up asceticism, he went to the Nellian Zen River near Gaishan, ready to wash away the dirt with clean river water first, and then carry out psychological cleaning. Because of years of penance, the prince was very weak, and he fell on the beach by the river because of hunger. Fortunately, a shepherdess happened to pass by and provided chyle, and the prince recovered his strength.

After washing the dirt on his body, the prince crossed the Nellian Zen River and came to a Biluoluo tree next to Jiadi Mountain. A teenager mowing the grass paved a seat for the prince. The prince sat in the east, thinking about the way out, and swore, "Never leave this seat until you prove your righteousness."

During this period, the prince stood upright, meditated, demonized and meditated deeply. After 7749 days, he finally saw the star at the dawn of the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month. He said, "What a surprise! It's amazing! All beings on the earth have wisdom and virtue, but they can't be proved by delusion. Since then, they have gained supreme consciousness. The world respects the monarch as a Buddha, which means enlightened person. This Biluoluo tree is also called Bodhi Tree by later generations.

After the Prince became a Buddha, in order to let all beings know and see the Buddha, he began his 49-year career as a Buddhist with infinite ingenuity and convenience.

Because the prince became a Buddha at the beginning of the twelfth lunar month, he only ate one hemp and one meter a day during his six-year asceticism. In order to commemorate the suffering of the prince, later generations take Laba porridge as a memorial on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month every year. Therefore, the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month is designated as the enlightenment day of Sakyamuni Buddha.
