Formulating the subsidy policy of funeral expenses for urban and rural residents is of great significance for perfecting the old-age insurance system for urban and rural residents, safeguarding the basic rights and interests of the insured, embodying social equity, maintaining fund security and promoting the sustainable development of the system. Since the publication of "Opinions of the State Council on Establishing a Unified Basic Old-age Insurance System for Urban and Rural Residents" (Guo Fa [2014] No.8), 2/KLOC-0 provinces in China have established a provincial-level coordinated funeral subsidy system according to local conditions.
