The sow-picking method is suitable for young sows about 45 days old and weighing in the range of 5 ~ 13 kg. In some areas, pigs are castrated within 1 month after birth and weigh within 2.5 kg. However, because of the delicate uterine horn, underweight piglets are prone to fracture when they are removed, and it is difficult to remove both ovaries cleanly.

Surgical site and operation technique

1, Baoding method

The operator grasps the left hind leg of the piglet with his left hand, pinches the tensor fascia lata muscle of the left hind leg with his right hand, and the right side of the piglet touches the ground with his back to the operator. Then the operator steps on the left side of the piglet's neck with his right foot, straightens the left hind leg backward, and makes the hind leg of the piglet semi-recumbent, and the operator steps on the left hind leg of the piglet with his left foot and presses it hard to operate.

2, determine the surgical site

Between the penultimate pair of nipples on the left side of the left lower abdomen, it is 2 ~ 3 cm away from the left nipple and opposite to the inner corner of the left iliac bone, which is the surgical site.

Step 3 disinfect

Before the operation, 70% alcohol cotton ball can be used to wipe and disinfect the operator's fingers and small pick knife. The surgical site of the pig was sheared and disinfected.

Surgical technique

(1) The operator holds a knife in his right hand, and the index finger or middle finger of his left hand is fixed at the inner corner of the left ilium. The surgical site is fixed with thumb, and the inner corner of the left frontal bone is pressed hard, almost to the point where the index finger or middle finger touches. The tighter he presses, the easier it is to remove the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

(2) After fixing the part, cut a small mouth along the thumb end of the left hand with a knife tip, about 0.5 ~ 1.0 cm. When making an incision, first cut the skin and abdominal muscle layer evenly with the tip of the knife, and puncture the peritoneum with the end of the knife handle.

(3) Then, the end of the handle extends into the opening for 2-3cm, and the handle is pulled out. Press two fingers of the left hand to expose the ovary and fallopian tube through the incision.

(4) When the uterine horn is exposed from the incision, press the abdominal wall with the back of the second knuckles of the left and right index fingers, so that the left and right thumbs alternately pull out the uterine horn, ovaries and part of the uterine body on both sides. First, separate the connection between ovary and ovarian capsule and body cavity, and then cut off or tear off the uterine body and broad ligament of uterus. At this time, the uterine horn, ovary and part of the uterine body were completely removed.
