What day is June 19?
As one of the helpers of Amitabha, Guanyin Bodhisattva is well known and respected by Buddhist practitioners living in the pure land of the West. June 19th of the lunar calendar is naturally a major festival for Buddhist practitioners.
Since noon on August 7th, Hongyuan Temple has welcomed a large number of believers and lotus friends from all over the country. On August 8th and 9th, Hongyuan Temple has arranged a lot of learning contents for believers and lotus friends, such as practicing Buddhism, three conversions, and master lectures.
June 19 was designated as the source of avalokitesvara's enlightenment day.
According to folklore, a long time ago, King Miao Zhuang of the Western Regions had three daughters. The third daughter was named Princess Miaoshan. When Princess Miaoshan was born, the sky was surrounded by auspicious clouds. Princess Miaoshan was smart, beautiful and kind since she was a child, and often helped people in need. Princess Miaoshan likes Buddhism, but she doesn't like gold and silver jewelry. She has read widely since she was a child, and the world respects her as the "Three Empresses".
As the princess grew up, all her sisters got married, but Princess Miaoshan had no idea about marriage. She was just addicted to Buddhism and decided to become a monk against her father's orders. King Miao Zhuang was very angry about this, so he stripped Princess Miaoshan of her title and demoted her to a civilian. So Princess Miaoshan became a monk in Baique Temple in Xiangshan on September 19.
Since then, Princess Miaoshan has been chanting and worshipping Buddha in Baique Temple. One day, Wang was seriously ill. The doctor said that the disease can only be cured by taking away the hands and eyes of his immediate family. Wang thought that filial piety to his eldest daughter and second daughter would definitely pay for himself, but neither of them wanted to.
At this time, Princess Miaoshan heard that her father was seriously ill and returned to the palace without hesitation. She gave her hands and eyes to King Miao Zhuang, which enabled King Miao Zhuang to recover. After getting sick, King Miao Zhuang found that her third daughter had saved him. She looked at her third daughter, Miaoshan, who had no hands or eyes, and was extremely sad. He repented to the Buddha and prayed that his daughter's hands and eyes would recover.
Feeling the filial piety of Princess Miaoshan, the Buddha gave her thousands of hands and eyes. Princess Miaoshan has been practicing Buddhism since then, and achieved a positive result on June 19, so later generations designated this day as the enlightenment day of Guanyin Bodhisattva.
