When is the birthday of Guanyin Bodhisattva on February 19?

February 19 of the lunar calendar is the Christmas anniversary of Guanyin, a famous Buddha in Buddhism. On this auspicious day, I wish the public to do good deeds, practice merits, be filial to their parents, recite scriptures, abstain from killing and releasing people, engage in all bad karma, pursue all good karma, repent and eliminate karma obstacles, and grow up in prosperity and wisdom. Pray that all disasters will not be born and the world will be safe.

Guanyin Bodhisattva is one of the four famous Buddhist images, representing great compassion for others, which is also the spiritual realm of altruism and selflessness that we should learn. In fact, there is no gender difference in bodhisattva, but it shows various methods for the convenience of all beings. All transformations are just convenient methods, don't be persistent.

The name of Guanyin Bodhisattva is transliterated from Sanskrit. Guanyin stands for observing the voice of suffering in the world, that is, following the sound to save suffering. There is a saying in Buddhism that all sentient beings, when suffering, call the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva wholeheartedly, and the Bodhisattva immediately observes its voice and wants to show it and help it.

China's Belief in Guanyin Bodhisattva

Belief in Guanyin has a far-reaching influence in China, resulting in various folklore about Guanyin. For example, it is widely circulated that Guanyin is the third princess of Miaozhuang Mountain in Xinglin country. This female Guanyin legend can be seen in Zhu Bian's Old News of Quyi in the Song Dynasty.

Later, Guan Daosheng's Biography of Guanyin Bodhisattva became a complete biography. On this basis, a large number of Guanyin story books have come out one after another, such as Xiangshan Baojuan, The Complete Biography of Guanyin in the South China Sea and The Way of Guanyin.

According to legend, Avalokitesvara had practiced Buddhism as early as in the past, but she could not bear to let all beings struggle in the sea of suffering. So she turned her back, gave up becoming a Buddha, and invited the Bodhisattva herself, with far-reaching merits.
