Engagement and marriage in the Spring and Autumn Period should go through the "Six Rites". Do you know the difference? Why are you doing this?

Six rites, the wedding ceremony of Han nationality. It refers to six kinds of etiquette from marriage negotiation to marriage completion, namely, accepting gifts, asking names, accepting gifts, inviting guests and welcoming them face to face. This kind of wedding procedure was established in the Zhou Dynasty, first seen in the Book of Rites, and most of the later generations followed the Zhou ceremony. Nacai means that the man's family asked the matchmaker to propose marriage to the woman's family, and the woman's family promised to propose marriage, and the man's family prepared six gifts. Asking the name means that the man's family asks the matchmaker to ask the woman's name and date of birth. Naji, that is, after the man retrieved the woman's name and eight characters, he performed divination in the ancestral hall. Zheng Na, also known as Nabi, means that the man's family gives it to the woman's family as a dowry. On the date of invitation, the man chooses the wedding date and prepares gifts to inform the woman's family for approval.

Kissing is when the groom goes to the woman's house to get married. From ancient times to the present, the so-called end of love is marriage. Although people always say that marriage is the grave of love, even if they love each other to death, they will eventually enter that hall. This matter is very sacred to the people of China, even to the nobles. There is a record of "Six Rites" in The Rites of Zhou, which is very strict, but from our modern perspective, we will be surprised to find that this marriage system was originally set for us by our ancestors two or three thousand years ago.

There are six steps about "Six Rites". The first step, if a man secretly loves a girl, he will send someone to propose to her with a bride price. This is called "receiving gifts", and it was also called "giving orders" in ancient times. If the woman is engaged, the man must confirm to her family which girl is engaged. This is "asking names". After "asking the name", the man will go to the ancestral temple to ask for divination. If he gets lucky divination, he will send someone to report "Naji" to the woman.

If you get evil divination, that is, the birth dates of men and women are incompatible, the marriage may be declared invalid. From then on, after receiving auspicious divination, the man has to bring a heavier gift to the woman before he can formally get engaged, which is called "Zheng Na" and "Nabi". After that, the man and the woman discussed it for a day and called it "invitation". On auspicious days, the man will personally go to the woman's house to welcome the bride home to get married, which means "kissing". After the "kiss" is completed, the so-called six rituals are really completed.
