Tashilhunpo monastery

Zhalunbu Temple, which means "auspicious Xumi Mountain" in Tibetan, is the largest temple of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in the post-Tibetan area and one of the six famous temples in China. The temple was built in Zheng Tong in the 12th year of Ming Dynasty, and was rebuilt and expanded by the Panchen Lama, forming a magnificent complex. Zhalunbu Temple was founded by Dunzhuba I, a disciple of Zong Kaba, the founder of Gelug Sect, and was founded in the 12th year of Tongtong (1447). After the reconstruction and expansion of the Panchen Lama, the scale of the temple has been expanding. Today, it covers an area of about 200,000 square meters and the wall is about 2,000 meters long.

Walking through the gate of the temple, the biggest building in front of you is the Cuoqin Hall. Outside the Cuoqin Hall is a courtyard surrounded by cloisters, which is the lecture hall of the temple. In the past, the Panchen Lama preached to monks in the whole temple, which was also the place where they defended their religion. In front of the main hall is the Great Sutra Hall, and in the middle is the throne of the Panchen Lama. Behind the hall are three Buddhist temples, with Sakyamuni in the middle, Maitreya in the west and Tara in the east. There is a gold-plated bronze statue of Sakyamuni more than 5 meters high in the hall of Sakyamuni. It is said that there are relics of Sakyamuni in the statue, as well as the hair of Zonggeba and the skull of Siro Sanger, the teacher of Gendun Zhuba. Tumu Temple, known as Zhuomakang in Tibetan, is a 2-meter-high bronze statue of White Tara, flanked by green mud sculptures of Tumu. Tara is the incarnation of avalokitesvara and is worshipped by Tibetan Buddhism.
