What rituals do Hakka pray for abundance?
After transplanting rice, Hakka people in Gannan will plant three incense sticks and hang three pages of paper money on the edge of the field. Before and after Tomb-Sweeping Day, every household should be "Amy" and bring the prepared "Amy" to the rice field for sacrifice, hoping that their seedlings will grow healthily and vigorously. This form of sacrifice should have been learned by Hakka ancestors from Zhuang, one of the aborigines at that time.
The rice planted by Hakka people in Dayu, southern Jiangxi is commonly known as "Dianhezi", and the early rice is usually planted before and after the fright, so it is also commonly known as "the finishing touch". Early in the morning, every family prepared incense sticks and paper money to go to Tiantou to worship the snail bodhisattva and pray for a bumper harvest.
Hakka people in Ji 'an, west Jiangxi also have the custom of "offering sacrifices to rice fields". On the day of spring sowing, three incense sticks and three paper money were tied with red lines, wrapped on the heads of incense sticks and inserted in the corners of rice fields. Then set off firecrackers, make a wish to tell the god of the country, pray that the seedlings will not rot and grow well, and then scatter the germinated seeds into the ground.
As the saying goes, "half a grain is good." In the past, farmers had to choose an auspicious day to transplant rice seedlings. When sowing, they took a branch from an evergreen tree and planted it on the ridge of the field, praying for the blessing of the land god and the Buddha of Heguan, that is, the god of five grains, so that the seedlings could grow luxuriantly like evergreen trees.
Some even recite the words: "Rice is planted in the paddy field, red paper is inserted in the head of the paddy field, and the rice god bless me and give me a bumper harvest year", and then thread incense is inserted in the red paper beside the paddy field to sow seeds silently, which is extremely mysterious and intended to make voles and sparrows unconscious.
After the planting valley turned green, every household made a "green nest" to worship the Buddha and pray for the healthy growth of seedlings. Some sowers wear hats on their heads, close their mouths and bite their teeth, in order to cover the rice seeds and prevent birds from pecking; Some growers put five fingers into the ridge of the field, which means "five tigers go down the mountain" to prevent the harm of wild animals and birds.
As soon as the seedlings came out of the water, the peasant woman took the fast food and vegetables to the field, then burned incense and worshipped the "Five Grains God", wishing the seedlings to flourish like green garlic.
On the opening day of Miaomen, Hakka people need to prepare meat wine, Tian Aimi, fragrant paper money and so on. And worship God in Tiantou and Sheguan Temple to pray for a bumper harvest. The man also went down to the rice field early in the morning, pulled out the strongest rice seedlings and offered them to the shrine, commonly known as "urging seedlings."
Hakka pays special attention to seedling opening day, and every household should prepare "Putian wine". Hakka invites relatives, friends and neighbors to help in Putian. After the opening ceremony, they invited experts from Putian to "open the seedling tray". Hakka's "Tian Tian Jiu" is very rich. Dayu Hakka proverb says "Tian Tian kills geese, grass turns into grain", and thinks that the more generous you are to Tian Tian guests, the better your harvest will be in 2008.
In the past, on the first day of early rice field in Ningdu, southern Jiangxi, Hakka people had to kill chickens or ducks in the ancestral hall, and they had to prepare three sacrifices, rice wine and incense for the altar, temple, grain temple and ancestral hall. These customs are similar to "opening a seedling door".
