The full moon, also known as "the joy under the moon", is one month after the baby is born. People think that one month after a baby is born is a difficult time to survive. In order to celebrate children's difficulties, a full moon ceremony is usually held to wish the baby a healthy growth.

According to local customs and traditions, different places have different rituals to give babies a full moon. Let's look at these customs ~

1, full moon wine

Full moon wine is the most common custom. Many places will give babies full moon wine to entertain relatives and friends, and some people will eat "Zi Yuan" on the full moon wine, which means that the baby will be "the champion in the future". Others will eat "happy noodles", which means that the baby "lives a long life".

Step 2 send red eggs

After eating the full moon wine, the host family will send red eggs and longevity fruit (peanuts) to the guests, not only the guests, but also distribute red eggs, "longevity fruit" and "longevity noodles" to the neighbors on the day or the next day of the full moon wine to share their joy.

Step 3 hang money

After eating the full moon wine, the mother will take the baby back to her mother's house. When she leaves home, there will be a black spot on her nose and a white spot when she comes home. Grandma will give her a red envelope and call it "hanging money", which means hanging money on her body, which means a lifetime of wealth.

Step 4 shave your baby's hair

Shaving fetal hair is also a common full moon custom. People think that shaving fetal hair will bring blessings to children, and the hair will grow thicker and darker in the future, so they will deliberately choose the auspicious day of the zodiac and find a respected elder to shave the baby.

"Shaving the full moon head" can't shave all the baby's hair. It will leave a small piece of "smart hair" in the center of the forehead and a lock of "root hair" in the back of the head, which means that children are smart, rooted and live long. Some will also make the freshly shaved hair into a tire brush, or rub the fetal hair into a pigtail and wrap it in red silk.

In some places, the bride's family shears the baby's fetal hair, which is called "hinge head", and there is a saying that "one hinge is gold, two hinges are silver, and three hinges are large groups of mules and horses", symbolically hinge ears, eyes, mouth, nose and toes, so as to make the baby "perfect" when he grows up.

In some areas, the auspicious day of the ecliptic will be chosen before the full moon, when babies will be given gold and silver ornaments such as baby clothes, swaddling clothes, silver collars, Tianguan cards, bagua diagrams, anklets and bracelets to ward off evil spirits, so as to lock children and prevent them from suffering disasters and live a long life. This ceremony is called "Please send Geng".

Step 6 hang the flag

In some areas of Shanxi, when a child has a full moon, people who are related to each other will unite to buy 300 feet of cloth for the main family who has had the full moon, and then sew the child's clothes, such as coats and trousers, on it with pins or threads. When the child has a full moon, give this cloth and the clothes on it as gifts to families who have had a full moon and hang them above the yard to celebrate.

Step 7 turn the doll

On the full moon, some places will dye the baby's eyebrows and face red, wrap them tightly with a small quilt, and then put a scallion in the baby's arms. The oldest person in the family will take the baby out of the door and walk around the village, indicating that the baby has seen the light of day again and parents can take the baby out to visit relatives and friends.

8. Opening ceremony

In some places, at the full moon, the host family will prepare three kinds of sacrifices: chicken, fish and eggs, and the mother will hold the baby and bow down to the "in-laws". After the worship, the mother will lick a small fish for the baby with chopsticks.

9. Out of the nest

After the child's full moon, grandma's family will take her grandson and daughter back to her mother's house. This is called "leaving the nest", and in some places it is called "walking the full moon".
