Introduction of Longnan Folk Custom Longnan Xianglong

The characteristic of Xianglong is that it is made of straw, with a special thick incense inserted at the end of the tap, and six people and two people take turns to take charge of it respectively. The dragon body can grow to hundreds of knots, and each knot contains 25 sticks of coarse incense, and some of them are added with materials that are easy to scatter sparks, such as the bark of Ke. Under the heavy night background, all the coarse incense is ignited, forming a long fragrant dragon, sparkling and colorful. Coupled with folk instrumental music, gongs and drums, Xianglong prances in the village square or field path for a mile or two, which is particularly spectacular.

This large-scale folk dance has a history of more than 500 years. It is still circulating in Shangzhuang Village, Longwen Town, this county. Once every three years, three days before the Lantern Festival, people actively carry out such activities, expecting peace and a bumper harvest. All the men in the village took part in this activity. Xianglong opens the way with fire beads (Dragon Balls), followed by an archway with the words "Five Grains, Six Livestock Flourishing, Peace for All Ages" written on it, and then Xianglong. At the same time, there are also lotus picking boats, carp lights, crab lights and other lights followed. People take advantage of the night, in high spirits, enjoying themselves, often in groups of hundreds or even thousands.
