Bonsai is an important festival of Buddhism.

Mid-Autumn Festival, known as Bonihara Festival in ancient times, is one of the traditional festivals in China. On July 15, people express their thoughts about their ancestors and relatives by celebrating sacrifices. This festival originated from Buddhism's Kasahara Festival, and incorporated elements of Taoism and folk beliefs, becoming a unique cultural phenomenon.

Historical origin

In 538 AD (the first year of Yuanxiang), Liang Wudi held a "Yulan Penzhai" in Tongtai Temple, where a temple was set up to worship Buddhists and monks, asking them to eliminate their sins and increase their happiness. This is the early bonsai in China. Since then, this ceremony has been widely circulated among the people.

During the Song and Yuan Dynasties (960- 1368), "monks in various temples built pots to chant Buddhist scriptures, camped at the rock mouth at night to feed ghosts and put water lights on" (Jiaqing's Chenghai County Records). At this time, the Yulan Victory Meeting in Chaoshan area has changed from filial piety to offering sacrifices to ghosts.

In Qing Dynasty, Yulan Shengli Society was endowed with the function of ancestor worship. Kangxi's "Raoping County Records" records: "On the Mid-Yuan Festival, the Taoist scriptures say that local officials forgive sins. There is time and things, and ancestor worship is also a new idea. " In the middle of Qing Dynasty, the Yulan Victory Festival was held in Chaoshan area through organizations such as good churches, village clubs and temples. Since then, the Yulan Victory Festival has formed two major themes-paying homage to the ancestors of lonely souls and charity to help the poor.
