What are the main types of folk dances in Myanmar?

Many folk dances in Myanmar are mainly inspired. The most common ones are Ripple Encouragement, Long Encouragement, Brothers Encouragement (Double Encouragement), Short Encouragement, Elephant Foot Drum Dance, Back Encouragement and so on. Most of them are produced in agricultural activities and religious activities. In addition, folk dances are also popular to express various animal idols.

The drum used for Long Drum Dance is called Oz, which looks like a wine glass and is a folk musical instrument in Myanmar. It is the main instrument used to celebrate festivals, such as the Harvest Festival. The Long Drum Dance and the Ripple Drum Dance were born in the Bagan Dynasty from the 9th century to the 3rd century, and they were both inspired by rice farmers when transplanting rice seedlings. Long drum dance is more with a suona than Ruibo drum dance, and the rhythm is more soothing. This kind of long drum, also called brother drum, is said to be made of wood from two brothers trees in the mountains, and some people call it acacia drum. Thus, Long Drum Dance and Long Drum Dance become a kind of folk drama dance. Wai Drum (Burmese Patvaine) is also a unique creation of the Burmese people, which can be said to be unparalleled in the world. Bazaar on the drum can adjust the pitch and sound of the drum, so the timbre of the drum becomes very moving. In addition to the sad and implicit sound, it can also produce a dripping and sliding sound effect, which complements the dance.

Wai Drum can't sing solo, so Wai Drum Band (Vain in Burmese) is formed, which includes Waigong, Gong Yi, cymbals, wooden bangzi, suona and flute. The bamboo paiqin (badra in Burmese) is a treasure of Myanmar musical instruments besides bending the piano and encircling the drum. Bamboo Paiqin is a soft and lyrical instrument, which is often played with the curved piano and is the main instrument of chamber music in Myanmar. So there are stretching and lyrical movements in the dance.

Myanmar has traditional and modern drum bands. Ancient traditional drum music is usually played on auspicious days. The modern drum troupe is named after the area where it was founded. The most famous ones in Myanmar are Maozha, Mahoko and Xindun Drum Class.
