The Year of the Yi Nationality is a traditional festival of the Yi nationality.
Then, let's take a look with me from the perspective of Yi culture!
The origin of yi nationality
The Year of the Yi people is a traditional festival of the Yi people, and the Yi language is called "Ku Zhi". It will be held in lunar calendar 10 and Gregorian calendar 1 10. In villages where the Yi people live in compact communities, auspicious days begin on June 10 of the lunar calendar and end on 30th. Due to the differences of auspicious days in different places, some Gregorian calendar days are early, some are in the middle and some are late. Every village has a three-day Yi calendar year. So there is an explanation that the Yi people spent a month. The Year of the Yi people means celebrating the New Year, offering sacrifices to ancestors, and praying for good weather, abundant crops, prosperous livestock and all the best in the coming year. Why does the Lunar New Year celebrate in October? Legend has it that there are two reasons. First of all, there are ten months in Yi history as a year. According to this calendar, October is the end and beginning of a year, which coincides with the New Year in China, so it is customarily called "October Year". Second, because during this period, the crops in the Yi area have been harvested, and the crops are abundant and slack, which is suitable for the New Year.
Yi people's new year legend
A long time ago, there lived a Yi family with three brothers on the mountain. They plant hard every year, but every year, the magic soldiers sent by the Heavenly Kings turn over the land and destroy crops. One year, they caught a heavenly soldier, the eldest brother advocated killing, the second brother advocated fighting, and the third brother advocated asking questions before killing. When the third child asked the heavenly generals, the heavenly generals said that he was forced to do bad things by the will of the heavenly kings, knowing that the heavenly kings wanted to monopolize the earth would decide the Tianhe River. When the three brothers asked God what to do, God would say, "The eldest brother built a tin house at the foot of the mountain, the second brother built a tin house on the hillside, and the third brother built a wooden house on the top of the mountain, so that he could take refuge." According to the day, the three brothers said that each man made a good house to live in. As a result, after 13 days, the mighty flood, the eldest brother living in the tin house and the second son living in the tin house all drowned at the bottom of the water, and only the third son lived in the foam wood house floating on the water, and the water receded and stayed on a hill.
The old man's wooden house attracted many escaped birds and animals, and the old man warmly received these surviving guests. Later, the third child wanted to marry the daughter of the king of heaven, and the birds and beasts who lived at home discussed how to fulfill his marriage.
One day, the heavenly king parted the clouds and traveled around the world. He found that there was only one house left on the top of the mountain, and a crow was chirping on the roof. This cry is an ominous sign. Tianwang asked his wife to read gobbledygook. When his wife opened the cupboard to read a book, she found that the mouse had bitten the gobbledygook to pieces. The heavenly king angrily chased the mouse, and was bitten by a python on the way, and he was badly hurt. At this moment, a lark flew to tell the king that the frog could heal his wound. Tianwang's wife invited the frog immediately, and the frog asked him to promise to marry his daughter to Lao San before treating him, which forced Tianwang to agree. Seeing the successful implementation of this plan to fulfill the third marriage, the frog jumped into the pond with a splash. The heavenly king couldn't catch the frog, and the wound became more and more serious and he died.
The third son married the daughter of the heavenly king, and the flower dog presented three grains of millet stuck to his tail. . The old couple planted these three seeds and harvested three ears of grain in autumn. The following spring, they planted three ears of grain and harvested 900 ears. In the third year, Lao San got 1000 kilograms of rice. In order to celebrate the harvest, the couple cooked glistening rice from the first day to the fifteenth day of October in the summer calendar, and entertained the heavenly generals who saved the third child and the birds and animals who got married successfully. This day has gradually become an annual festival of the Yi people. After the autumn harvest every year, we should solemnly celebrate the year of ancestor worship of Yi people, celebrate the harvest of that year, and wish a better harvest in the coming year.
