Teahouse Inscription Chen Duxiu wrote an inscription for Jiangjin Township Teahouse.

1in August, 937, Chen Duxiu was released from the Kuomintang Nanjing prison. The following year, due to the Japanese occupation of Shanghai and Nanjing, he and his wife Pan Lanzhen took refuge in Jiangjin County, a suburb of Chongqing. After many twists and turns in Jiangjin County, on May 27th, 1939, he moved to Yangjiashi Wall Courtyard, a large family in Liu Ma Township of this county. The owner, Yang Lucheng, paid tribute in the late Qing Dynasty. Chen Duxiu moved here, it is said that he was invited by Yang's survivors to help Yang sort out his legacy.

Mr. and Mrs. Chen Duxiu have a place to live, but the traffic here is inconvenient and the news is blocked. Fortunately, there is a double stone field not far from the Stone Wall Courtyard. Although it is called a market, it is actually a "kiln" with only two thatched houses. It only sells small commodities such as kerosene and matches, and is under the jurisdiction of Xiaping's Fifth Bureau Township. This place, also known as Shuangshiqiao, is the only place that goes up to Liu Ma and Longmen Township, down to the Fifth Bureau and Langshan Township, and to Jiangjin County. It's only a 20-minute mountain road from the Stone Wall Courtyard. Chen Duxiu lives in Shiqiangyuan, while helping the Yang family to sort out the legacy, he spends more energy and time compiling the phonological work "Primary School Literacy Textbook". Whenever he has leisure, he goes for a walk in Shuangshichang, because here he can hear the story of sedan-chair bearers coming back and forth from Jiangjin County.

Near here in Luo Qiao, Longmen Township, there is a very shrewd farmer named Chen. He was in his forties at that time. He returned to Longmen Township from the county seat, stopped at Shuangshichang and met Chen Duxiu who was walking. He asked him for advice and planned to open a teahouse here. This idea was endorsed by Chen Duxiu. Chen Duxiu encouraged him to say, "I'll come to your place for tea then." Chen keeps his word. After three months of preparation, we set up two straw houses and six small square tables at the west bridge head of Shuangshichang, and started the business of purchasing "Old Shadow Tea". This is just a small business, selling only a cup of hot tea and fresh water to passers-by. After opening for a week, business was very cold, and Chen regretted that he should not have done so. At this moment, he met Chen Duxiu, who was walking here, and asked Chen Duxiu to give him another idea.

Chen Duxiu suggested that he hold a small opening ceremony. So, Chen chose an auspicious day, set off a cannon, held a simple opening ceremony, and invited people from the venue to the teahouse for a free tea day. Chen Duxiu specially wrote a calligraphy work for the teahouse in the form of banners. Chen, who studied in a private school for a few days, hung banners in the main hall of the teahouse. Chen Duxiu wrote a passage in Tao Yuanming's Homecoming:

Please love words from relatives, play music and read books to eliminate worries. The farmer told Yu Yichun that he wanted to do something with Xichou.

Or a towel cart, or a boat This is not only a gentle and elegant road to find ravines, but also a rugged road through hills.

The strokes of this banner are smooth, concise and powerful. After Chen died, he attracted many old pedants from the countryside to watch in a few days, and the small teahouse was very lively.

Letters, books and newspapers sent to Chen Duxiu from Jiangjin or Chungking are mostly sent to Chen Guo Xiang Teahouse in Shuangshichang, and Chen Duxiu comes to the teahouse occasionally, one is to drink tea and collect local customs, and the other is to retrieve letters, books and newspapers. The business of this small teahouse is booming gradually.
