North Wudang Temple (the first Buddhist temple) is an ancient temple integrating Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, which is quite famous in Ningmeng area. In history, it has the reputation of "the famous orchid in Xixia and the ancient temple in the mountains". Founded in the prosperous Tang Dynasty, it has a history of more than 900 years. Since the 40th year of Kangxi (170 1), a temple was officially built here. Empress Dowager Cixi of the Qing Dynasty once gave the "Buddha Hall for Protecting National Life".
North Wudang Temple (the first Buddhist temple) covers an area of10.2 million square meters, with a building area of 4,300 square meters. The ancient temple was built on the mountain, bringing the momentum of the mountain into the temple. The pattern of temples and the dangerous peaks of mountains and rivers complement each other, embellishing each other and being scenery for each other. The whole temple faces south, and the layout of the four courtyards is rigorous, solemn and beautiful. The gatehouse and annex hall of the central axis building are symmetrical and harmonious.
Morning bell and dusk drum, the music of North Wudang Temple is melodious. From a distance, the huge word "Buddha" and mountains seem to be hidden in the clouds. Breeze blowing, return to nature, find a clean and happy mood, let people unconsciously experience a trace of Zen in the world.
Over the years, it has attracted countless believers, pilgrims and tourists. But the wear and tear of the stone steps under the mountain gate can tell us that there are incense and tourists here. In front of the temple, the whole city of Dawukou District, Shizuishan City, a coal city has a panoramic view; Climbing this mountain and overlooking the beautiful mountains and rivers in northern Yin Bei is refreshing. On weekdays, it is quiet and secluded, with only thousands of pilgrims and tourists; Temple fair, no matter how lively, is its auspicious day. There are seven temple fairs here every year. North Wudang Temple, a famous ancient temple hidden in the mountains.
If there is a kind of harmony in the ancient town of Jiangnan, then an ancient northwest temple hidden in the mountains will make people feel Zen. North Wudang Temple is located in Dawukou District, Shizuishan City, with mountains in the north and Pingchuan in the south. This geographical location is far away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoys the ethereal and quiet of the mountain. Regarding the origin of the name of the Northern Wudang Temple, many people think that it has some close connection with the Northern Wudang Temple in Hubei, or it is a branch of it, which is an unknown puzzle. In fact, the name of the temple in the north of Wudang here, "Wu" refers to the Zhenwu Emperor, which is the northern god revered by Taoism. "Dang" means "existence". Wudang is the place where Zhenwu Emperor is located. In order to distinguish the world-famous Wudang Temple in Xunxian County, Hubei Province, and this temple is located in the northwest of China, a word "North" is added in front of Wudang Temple, which is called North Wudang Temple. North Wudang Temple, also known as Shoufo Temple, is known as "an ancient temple in the mountains and a famous orchid in Xixia". It is a major feature of this ancient temple to give priority to Buddhism and integrate Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. In this historical process, Buddhist temples, which are constantly developing and integrating, have been hidden in the mountains and shining brightly.
According to the Newly Built Monument of Beiwudang Temple, Beiwudang Temple was built in the forty-eighth year of Qing Emperor Kangxi (1709). It was built on the basis of a small temple with donations from Hong Guangying, lay man and Ningxia Zhenzhou. After several expansions, it was built in Qingganlong for forty years (1755), and there was no hall behind the boundless hall. Jiaqing first built the affiliated hall; In the 14th year of Jiaqing (1809), a pair of stone lions were erected in front of the mountain gate. In the 16th year of Jiaqing (18 1 1), three archways were built in Qian Dian. During Guangxu period, Guangyu, a monk of North Wudang Temple, studied in Tanzhe Temple in Beijing and was introduced by the abbot of Tanzhe Temple. Please ask Empress Dowager Cixi, who often comes to Tanzhe Temple to make pilgrimages, to write a white silk banner for Wudang Temple to protect the country and the Buddha. Since then, the Northern Wudang Temple has been called Shoufo Temple. Zuo and others also wrote inscriptions for it, making it famous all over the world. On the eighth day of April, the fifteenth day of July, the fifteenth day of August and the ninth day of September in the lunar calendar, people from all over the country came to worship Buddha in an endless stream, with strong incense.
There is also a folklore about the establishment of this temple: soldiers guarding Shizuishan have been patrolling the foothills every night since Kangxi for four years, and often hear the cry of "carrying me on your back". One night, after hearing the call, the soldiers agreed casually. Suddenly, a man appeared on the back of a soldier and had to carry him away. He also asked where the man on his back lived, his last name and why he was here alone in the middle of the night. But I haven't heard the answer from the people behind. After walking a few miles on my back, I felt heavier and heavier, and finally I couldn't walk. The soldier said angrily, "You are a stone man! Why don't you talk? " After saying his word, the man lying on his back fell to the ground. The soldier lit a torch and saw that it was actually a Buddha statue with infinite life. There happened to be a cave on the hillside here, so he put the Buddha statue in the cave. At the end of ten years, the officers and men of the Qing army stationed in Pingluo were hunting in Helan Mountain. Suddenly, they saw Xiangyun and covered the mountain peak. They also vaguely heard the clash of weapons and the sound of hooves. Everyone felt strange, so they looked for it in the depths of the forest. Finally, they found the immortal Buddha statue in the cave and carried it back to the Black Pier Tower, which became heavier and heavier. At that time, a kind-hearted lay man suggested that the land here was flat and wide, and a temple could be built here for the infinite life Buddha to live in, but it could not be built because there was no water. So people prayed silently and asked for help. After praying for a while, the land was wet, and when I dug down, a fountain immediately gushed out of the ground, and the spring water was clear and sweet. So I set up a shed here to break ground. I built a wall foundation on the mountain with stones, rammed a wall with loess and built a temple. From then on, hundreds of good men and women around went to Wudang Temple to burn incense and worship Buddha, blessed by the gods, and the incense flourished.
Nowadays, the Northern Wudang Temple, as a Buddhist holy place and tourist attraction, attracts many tourists with its quiet and elegant environment. When people stand at the foot of the mountain and look from a distance, the mountains behind the North Wudang Temple are hidden in the fog. On the mountainside, a huge word "Buddha" makes people respect. When they climbed to the top of the mountain, their eyes closed slightly, the wind blew past them, and the world was in a mess, blowing in the wind. This is a quiet feeling that can't be found in the noise of the city. Here, the mountains are winding, and the architectural layout of the North Wudang Temple is slowly unfolding, and the looming rules change, showing a stretch and open realm, thus standing out from the mountains on three sides. There are several hundred-year-old trees beside the temple, which are vigorous and tall. The whole temple is a big rectangle with its back facing north and south. From south to north, there are Qian Shan Gate Pagoda, Linggong, Guanyin Pagoda, Infinite Hall, Multi-Pagoda and Giant Buddha Hall in turn. Among them, there is a five-story pagoda in front of the Great Buddha Temple, which is 20 meters high, brick pavilion-style, with four doors and a mountain porch, making the tower form many shuttle angles. Its structure is very similar to the sea pagoda in Yinchuan, but shorter than the sea pagoda without losing its simplicity and grandeur. The whole temple complex is patchwork, orderly, solemn, compact and reasonable in layout. In the meantime, the pavilion bells jingle and the charm is smooth, making people feel ethereal. The statues in the temple are various and lifelike. The walls of the Buddhist temple are painted with lifelike flying figures and murals of gods, which are solemn and realistic. Here, the pattern of ancient temples and the peaks of dangerous peaks are dotted with each other and the scenery is beautiful. In addition, mountains are often surrounded by clouds, which makes temples more attractive. Approaching the North Wudang Temple, you will be intoxicated by the fact that the temples complement each other in the mountains. You will see the scenery of a mountain and a temple, and pay attention to the Zen of life beyond the sound of morning bells and drums.
