The dog days are the hottest time of the year, and the start time and end time are related to the 24 solar terms. According to folk sayings, the time of autumn is related to the solar terms from summer to solstice, and the time of autumn is related to the solar terms in beginning of autumn.

Combined with the "Geng Day" in the trunk and branch calendar, the time of entry and exit is determined every year.

The third Geng day of the summer solstice refers to the lodging time in the dog days every year, and the third Geng day after the summer solstice solar term every year is the lodging time of the year.

The second watch in beginning of autumn refers to the time when it comes out in the dog days every year, and the second watch after the solar terms in beginning of autumn every year is the time of the year.

When will it come out in 2023?

Everyone is familiar with the summer solstice and the solar terms in beginning of autumn, and the word "Geng Ri" is related to the method of observing the sun on the branches.

Ten-day cadres (A, B, C, D, E, Ji, G, Xin, Ren and Gui) are divided into four parts in the calendar.

Twelve earthly branches (Zi, Ugly, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu and Hai) are mixed in a certain order, and 60 combinations can be obtained. Each combination corresponds to one day, and it will be repeated after 60 days.

Among these 60 combinations, there are 6 combinations with "Geng", namely, Geng Zi, Geng Yin, Chen Geng, Wu Geng, Geng Shen and Geng Xu. Therefore, these six days with Geng are called "Geng Day" and appear once every 10 day.

Knowing this, you can quickly calculate the time of entry and exit. This year (2023), the summer solstice solar term is June 2 1, which is Geng Xuri, and the third Geng Day will be July 1 1, which is Geng Wu Day. So the stay time is July 1 1.

The solar term in beginning of autumn is August 8th, which is the day of the Reform Movement of 1898, and the second Geng Day is August 20th, which is the day of Geng Xu. So the time to leave the group this year is August 20.

In addition, there is a method to determine the emergence time, because the first Geng day after beginning of autumn is the beginning of the final emergence, and the final emergence every year is 10, and 10 is just another Geng day. Therefore, it can also be interpreted as the second Geng Day after beginning of autumn.
